Experience
I have tutored only for the past year or so, in high school level American History and AP English. I have some experience also with foreign language students at the University: while not an official tutor per se, I have helped some students at the university level with their writing and editing skills. The next step for me is a certification in ESL education, which I hope will carry me abroad. I have not been out of North America since a semester abroad in Sevilla, which was my introduction to Spanish literacy. I have also been teaching for the past two years for the Montclair State Gifted and Talented Program, in the areas of logic, philosophy and writing. Philosophy has become especially relevant to my studies and life since beginning graduate school, perhaps influential to my position as secretary in the History of Ideas Club. I enjoy tutoring for two reasons. It allows me to work in a setting that challenges me intellectually, concerning material that I enjoy continually returning to. Further, it is a flexible and viable option for income; the cliche of "broke grad student" is a reality.
